A Ton of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The winter break offer a wealth of activities far superior than checking the headlines: discovering surprises, indulging in festive fare, and harnessing deep breathing to not snapping at family members. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items emerged over the festive period, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Without a doubt the most shocking announcement, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not yet been announced.
