Previous Federal Bureau of Investigation director James the ex-FBI chief has pleaded not guilty to providing misleading information to US legislators and hindering a congressional proceeding.

His attorney submitted the plea representing him in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.

Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would try to have the legal matter terminated for multiple reasons including that his the accused, a opponent of President Donald Trump, was being singled out.

James Comey was formally accused soon after the former president urged his attorney general to move forward against him.

In court on mid-week, the defense counsel Patrick Fitzgerald advised the magistrate they intended to file various motions to throw out the legal matter before a court case, arguing the prosecution was vindictive and that a federal prosecutor was improperly appointed to handle the proceedings.

The former director was the FBI Director from four years and was terminated about four months into Trump's first term as national leader.
