Heaton Park Synagogue Incident: A Casualty Was Likely Fired Upon by Officers

During a devastating turn of events, a individuals lost at the Heaton Park synagogue attack is believed to have been fatally wounded by armed police officers.

Official Statement Reveals Firearm Injury

The chief constable of Greater Manchester Police stated that the Home Office pathologist has provisionally determined the man died of a gunshot wound.

“Overnight, we have taken advice from the Home Office pathologist before detailed autopsies scheduled for this afternoon. The Home Office pathologist has advised that preliminary findings show one of the deceased victims would appear to have suffered a injury matching a gunshot injury.”

Suspect Details

The assailant, Jihad al-Shamie, did not have a gun, and the only shots fired came from authorized firearms personnel at the scene.

It is believed the deceased was part of the group behind the synagogue door trying to stop the attacker from gaining entry.

Consequences of Police Action

“Thus, it appears that subject to additional analysis, the wound was unfortunately incurred as a tragic and unforeseen consequence of the urgently required action taken by our personnel to halt this brutal assault.”

Names Released

The two victims who lost their lives at Heaton Park synagogue located in Manchester earlier this week were identified as Adrian Daulby, aged 53 and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz.

These individuals were killed when a vehicle was employed to crash through the grounds of the local Jewish place of worship, before the attacker targeted attendees in a six-minute rampage that ended only when armed officers shot at him twice, killing him near the synagogue entrance.

Further Harm

Three others sustained major injuries in the attack on the Day of Atonement, the holiest day in the Jewish year.

The chief constable added, “We have also been advised that one of the three victims now hospitalized sustained a gunshot wound, which is fortunately non-fatal. It is believed the two individuals were close together behind the synagogue door, as attendees showed courage to prevent the attacker from getting inside.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are directed toward the affected relatives, and broader public, touched by this incident in the region and elsewhere. Trained personnel are offering aid and care for everyone involved, including the courageous emergency teams.”

Attacker Profile

Police named the attacker as Shamie, thirty-five, a UK national of Syrian descent.

Greater Manchester police said that three other people – two men in their 30s and an older female – had been arrested “on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism”.
