The French Prime Minister Steps Down Following Less Than a Month Amidst Widespread Backlash of New Ministers

The French political crisis has deepened after the freshly installed PM unexpectedly quit within a short time of appointing a cabinet.

Swift Departure Amid Political Turmoil

Sébastien Lecornu was the third PM in a year-long span, as the nation continued to lurch from one political crisis to another. He quit moments before his initial ministerial gathering on the start of the week. France's leader approved Lecornu's resignation on the start of the day.

Strong Backlash Over Fresh Government

France's leader had faced strong opposition from opposition politicians when he announced a new government that was virtually unchanged since last month's ousting of his preceding leader, his predecessor.

The presented administration was controlled by President Emmanuel Macron's supporters, leaving the administration largely similar.

Opposition Criticism

Opposition parties said the prime minister had reversed on the "major shift" with earlier approaches that he had pledged when he assumed office from the disliked Bayrou, who was removed on 9 September over a suggested financial restrictions.

Future Government Direction

The question now is whether the president will decide to dissolve parliament and call another sudden poll.

Jordan Bardella, the leader of the opposition figure's political movement, said: "It's impossible to have a restoration of calm without a fresh vote and the parliament's termination."

He added, "It was very clearly France's leader who chose this government himself. He has failed to comprehend of the present conditions we are in."

Election Calls

The opposition movement has pushed for another poll, thinking they can expand their representation and role in the assembly.

The country has gone through a phase of instability and government instability since the president called an unclear early vote last year. The parliament remains split between the three blocs: the progressive side, the nationalist group and the centre, with no absolute dominance.

Financial Deadline

A budget for next year must be agreed within weeks, even though government factions are at disagreement and the prime minister's term ended in less than a month.

Opposition Vote

Parties from the left to far right were to hold gatherings on Monday to decide whether or not to approve to remove France's leader in a parliamentary motion, and it seemed that the government would fail before it had even begun operating. Lecornu apparently decided to leave before he could be ousted.

Cabinet Positions

Nearly all of the major ministerial positions announced on Sunday night remained the unchanged, including the justice minister as legal affairs leader and Rachida Dati as culture minister.

The role of economy minister, which is vital as a split assembly struggles to approve a spending package, went to the president's supporter, a government partner who had formerly acted as industry and energy minister at the beginning of his current leadership period.

Unexpected Selection

In a unexpected decision, the president's political partner, a Macron ally who had served as financial affairs leader for multiple terms of his leadership, returned to cabinet as military affairs head. This enraged leaders across the various parties, who viewed it as a sign that there would be no questioning or modification of Macron's pro-business stance.
