Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
